Worm pit update

After having recently added all the ingredients to my worm pit as I mentioned in my first post, I went out today and dug down and saw little worms everywhere! I think they were baby P. Excavatus, and one goal of mine with this worm pit is to produce a sufficient number so that I can start a worm bin “compost castings factory” that will supply my gardening and farming needs.

This species is about 1/3 more productive and prolific than the red worms (or other compost worms), and that is why it is my intent to produce an army of them that I can transfer to my new worm bin that is under design. I will be building it from the same fence board extras that I used to make the hot compost bin. Also, I have a simple design that I think will be on par with the very efficient worm-o-roo (which I understand might be out of production?). Oh also, I discovered what looked like some fat red worms(?)  in my outdoor bin. It’s the first I have seen of them since I added all the good stuff to the pile.
