Tomato Plants Getting Big and Full!

tomato plantsHere is a shot of some of my tomato plants, and as you can see, they are getting full of tomatoes. Pictured here are black krim heirlooms and a bloody butcher in the background.  Not pictured here in the same plot are the Isis Candy, Sungold, and Kellogg’s Breakfast.  I am already harvesting the tasty sungolds.

The real challenge with indeterminate tomatoes is keeping them tied properly and keeping the tomatoes as high off the ground as possible (discussed earlier). In the immediate foreground are summer squash, and I will be discussing these and other summer vegetables next. At the rate these tomato plants are growing (some are 4′), I expect they will be at the top of the 7′ stakes by July!

Finally, after reading about successful and humane products to deter animal pests (raccoons in my case), I decided to order one of these: Contech Electronics Scarecrow Motion-Activated Sprinkler #CRO101/CRO102
