Soil is good for your health!
Yeah, no kidding! Rover knows what he is doing when he rolls in the dirt (and so do kids for that matter). Anyhow, recent studies show that a variety of substances found in the soil are beneficial for immune system development, depression, asthma, and allergies. There are harmless microbes living therein that boost the immune system and even serotonin levels in the brain. It is surmized that people today live in too sterile of an environment (not to mention “toxic”) and do not get this needed exposure.
As a child, I spent much time playing in the dirt, and my gardening experience over the years has kept me in continued contact with it. As a result, I feel that this has something to do with my lack of allergies and great health.
Another thought I had was in learning that vermiposting increases microbe population in the soil by about 20 fold! So what are you waiting for? Come dig in as we get our hands good and dirty!
